  3. Once the cap is off, you'll see either a setscrew (hex or Phillips) or a threaded stem. If it's a setscrew, loosen it with a 3/32" or 5/64" hex key (Delta loves those tiny sizes).
  4. Pull the handle straight off. If it resists, check for a second setscrew — I've seen them on both sides.

The cap flew off, the plastic clip inside snapped, and I had to order a replacement cap (non-trivial — some Delta trim kits are discontinued). Cost me $28 and a 3-day delay. One last thing: the setscrew sizes are ridiculous

Delta uses non-standard hex keys on some handles. 5/64", 7/64", even 3/32" (which is close to 2.5mm but not exactly). I keep a small folding hex set in my tool pouch just for shower handles. Trust me, the time you save by having the right size is worth the $8 set.
